  • Equipment List for Riders new and old

Equipment List for Riders new and old

When riding with club or out and about on your bike it is important to carry some basic equipment to cover mechanical emergencies and changes in the weather. So to aid members new and old this guide has been pulled together, it covers information we have had on the club rules list for years and is fleshed out with some newer info as well. As always the list is not exhaustive and you may add to it as you see fit. The list will include a brief description of items needed and will be broken down into...

  • About Us

    About Us

The St Helens Woollyback M.B.C was originally setup around January 1991. It was first started by a girl called Nicola Howarth and we only had a handfull of members. By 1992 we had grown to 25 members and 1994 being our best year with 46 members. We are based in St Helens although the membership comes from surrounding areas also, even as far as Cumbria. The usual membership consists of usually between 20-30 members each year with a wide age range and ability levels throughout. The Woollybacks were made ...

    Halloween Grizedale lakeland thriller.

An absolutely spooktastic hell raiser of a ride today, riders out were: Chunk, Chris Watson, Pete Tong, Red Rooster, Tyre, Tracey, Andy Cas, Pieeater, Dan 25, Knotty, Noddy, Roger, Daveyboy, and myself. After an amazing rocky downhill, it looked like a hellish start with losing one rider early on and then a ride ending stack off some roots and into a tree for Tyre (possible SOTY!) the omens looked bad! However once we got going all the demons were banished, and a spookily good time was had by al...

    Carmill 28th October

Good ride out last night, plenty out (with nuts) man flu'ers!! as Mr T would say. Think we had about 14, after Gaz dropped off early after not feeling to good. Fast blast out (well Pieater was leading)! conditions seemed bad in parts and ok in others, bit stange really. Some deep mud in Billinge woods, and at various points, no steps of woe, doom or peril. A fall for the Tong off the slag heap, but otherwise an incident free night. Back at the pub, Chris Watson wowed all with home made cake...

    Tubeless Test

    DaveK's Tubeless Test

When I punctured in the Whinlatter Challenge it really pissed me off. Good day spoilt by a simple mechanical. This got me thinking about punctures and realised that virtually all of my punctures where either pinch flats or hawthorns. I knew the answer was to go tubeless, but after the numerous tubeless failures within the club (many within a few hundred meters of setting off) I was highly sceptical. The market is full of conversion kits, sealants, DIY solutions and UST systems, so I decided to try a few out to see what worked and what didnt. ...

As I get asked plenty of questions regarding fork set up and maintenance I thought Id do a bit of a guide / pointers for the tech section to leave on the website.

  • Heavy Duty Bush
    by artillerydave
Hi all, I've been talking about these a fair bit lately to quite a few members, so thought a bit of a piccy diary might help, so here we have a step by step changing of a standard eyelet bush and alloy top hat arrangement for a heavy duty / strong bush kit. Plenty of us use them already, but if you don't then have a read. Why change? the bush is the sacrificial part of this arrangement, and wears out to protect the eye of the shock, it is fitted with two alloy top hats, as these wear the bike de...
